Podcasting in the classroom

Podcasting might be a great way to incorporate science and writing. I am fond of listening to NPR Friday science news on the way to school. The information is short and to the point as well as recent. I usually end up paraphrasing the news cast to the students. Now I will download the podcast. The students will listen and write a short summary. I feel podcasts are a great writing prompt for middle school science students.

That sounds like a great idea, it also incorporates listening skills.

Hello B. Fletcher,

I think nova net is a high school curriculum. You could do an internet search to check it out.

I never though of having the kids listen to a short podcast as a writing prompt. That is a great idea. especially for an English teacher. I didn't put this in my blog, but I do use e books to help my struggling readers. I play the book in class while the students follow along in their books. I helps keep everyone on the same page. lol. Seriously, it really helps some kids. I think it would be fun to have the kids listen to things like war of the worlds or other famous radio shows. It would help them understand the concept of show don't tell in writing. Thanks for the idea. Tomorrow we are going to listen to Animal Farm. The original is only 3 hours long.
