Summative Reflection

EDT 5410 has been a great learning experience for me. Every technology related task was completely new but connected to education. Some tasks where more challenging than others due to their unfamiliarity. Once I “played” with the new concept, the undertaking became less confusing. I found myself working on improving a few assignments well after they were due. For example, I’m still adding pictures to my photo sharing site, improving my blog, and adding websites to my social bookmarking page. Even though some tasks felt too challenging, I found support through hyperlinks provided in the learning modules, class members, and Dr. Horvitz. Most support came from my class members which I believe has been a great way to network and learn from each other. The one area that I would like more support or an area that I would like to learn more about is ways to improve my blog design. In my classroom, I plan to incorporate most, if not everything I have learned in class, as I believe it will benefit my student’s academic success. I’m excited to use blogging for support teams and social bookmarking to allow for access to my favorites from anywhere. My vision is that students in my classroom will use technology to learn from one another just as we, the students in EDT 5410, have learned by supporting one another. EDT 5410 has built my confidence towards technology. I was able to conquer every task given which is a great feeling coming into this course with very little techno-knowledge. I feel that educational technology was the right choice for my master’s program.

I agree! :D I'm a person that likes to "customize" everything, and while customization is often for personal enjoyment only, I can see how the more interesting/colorful/customized forms of technology catch students/ employees "eyes" and interest more so than plain/boring ones do. As such, it would be interesting to have part of EDT 5410 address customization of blogs, for instance. ...just a thought :)

Bobbie,

I also find myself going back to previous assignments and improving on what I initially learned. At times, when I am done with an assignment..I ask myself "how did I just get that to work". I learn by doing and sometimes I have to do it a couple of times to make sure I know the "steps". I believe it has been a great way to network and learn from each other. From week one when you answered my introduction with a "don't worry, we will all help each other" I have found comfort knowing my classmates are out in cyper space willing to help.

Good for you for your optimism and plans for your students. I personally have used just about everything we have done in this class with my high school students. Some of it took administrator involvement, but we got there. Don't worry too much about planning everything out to be perfect, you will be amazed how receptive students are to learn the new technologies, just as we are! I think I am OCD now with these new technologies. I can't pull myself away from it.

I also like to visit old assignments. I have recently started showing some of my colleagues how to start there own blogs and add videos. Many of them have been amazed at how easy it is. They felt like I did that it was something that tech people said was easy but for technologically impaired people like me it thought it would be extremely difficult. To their (and mine) surprise it has been relatively easy.
