The purpose for my screencast shows how to use Funderstanding.com. This website is great for students to practice their knowledge of maximum kinetic energy (KE) and maximum potential energy (PE) using a roller coaster. In the beginning of my energy unit I assign a roller coaster project where students actually build a functioning roller coaster. Students use the roller coaster to demonstrate their knowledge of maximum KE and PE as well as gravity, friction, mass, and speed. After all these ideas are taught, students “play” on the website using the energy terms to practice for their project.

I LOVE this site, too! When I saw your post it made me think of all those websites that I use for teaching and the many times I often need to demonstrate their use before students use them independently! What a great way to share the basics with students (by going through the screencast of the website with them as a whole class) and then allow them to revisit it if they did not understand the first time through. On my webpage of websites that are used in the classroom, it would be very easy to link the students to these videos so that they had easy access to each one. Also, any students that are absent would get the same exposure each of the other students got and there is little extra time taken out of my day to help them catch up! And, no excuses if they cannot follow directions! Thanks for the idea.
